Mike Cochran, Head Football Coach

Mike Cochran begins his fourth season at the helm of the Crimson Storm football program in the fall of 2009. Cochran has compiled an overall record of 16-15 in three seasons at Southern Nazarene and has an overall mark of 62-27 in eight years as a collegiate head coach.

In his first season at Southern Nazarene, Cochran guided the Crimson Storm to a 7-3 record and followed that up with a 6-4 mark in 2007. Last season, Cochran suffered his first losing season as a head coach as the Crimson Storm went 3-8 in 2008.

Prior to coming to SNU, Cochran was the head coach at SNU’s sister Nazarene school, MidAmerica Nazarene. In five years at the helm of the Pioneers program, Cochran compiled a 46-12 record and guided MNU to the NAIA national playoffs three times in 2002, 2003 and 2004.

In 2005, Cochran led the Pioneers to a 7-3 record and MidAmerica finished 19th in the final NAIA national rankings and was ranked as high as 4th nationally.

In five years at MidAmerica, Cochran led the Pioneers to two Heart of America Conference Championships, in 2002 and 2003, and was twice named the Heart of America Conference Coach of the Year in 2002 and 2003. Cochran was also the 2003 AFCA Region Four Coach of the Year.

Cochran grew up in Oklahoma, attending Windsor Hills Elementary, Mayfield Junior High School, and Putnam City West High School. Cochran played football at PC West, two years of which were spent playing under former SNU Offensive Coordinator and local high school coaching legend, Mike Little.

After graduating from PC West, Cochran went on to Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology in 1991. Cochran was a four-year letterman for Bethany, where he played from 1986-89. Cochran obtained his Master of Science degree in marriage and family therapy from Friends University in Wichita, Kansas in 1993.

Cochran began his coaching career in 1989, serving as an assistant coach at Bethany College, where he coached the offensive line and coordinated recruiting visits for the Swedes. Cochran stayed at Bethany until 1991 and resumed his coaching career in 1993, taking an assistant coaching position at MidAmerica Nazarene University.

At MNU, Cochran served in stints as the linebacker coach and the offensive line coach until 2000, when he was named the new head coach. At MidAmerica, Cochran also served as an adjunct professor, and was the Director of Admissions for the Division of Innovative Adult Education. Cochran was an Academic Coordinator for the Division of Innovative Adult Education before taking the head coaching position.

Mike and his wife, Melinda, have three children: two sons, Cole and Bryton, and a daughter, Anna.

Craig Hubbard, Head Assistant/Defensive Coordinator

Craig Hubbard begins his fourth year as Southern Nazarene University’s defensive coordinator in 2009.

Hubbard served as MidAmerica Nazarene University’s defensive coordinator for four seasons and followed Mike Cochran from MNU to SNU in December of 2005.

Hubbard’s defenses have consistently been among the nation’s toughest throughout his stints at MidAmerica and now at Southern Nazarene.

In 2007, Hubbard’s SNU defense finished the year ranked 5th in sacks per game (3.4) and was ranked 3rd in the nation in rushing yards allowed per game at just over 66 yards per game. SNU was also in the top ten in first downs allowed, 12th in sacks, and 15th in scoring defense. Hubbard’s defense ranked 13th overall in total defense per game, allowing 231.5 yards per contest.

As defensive coordinator at MidAmerica, Hubbard consistently had his defenses among the nation’s elite. In his final season at MNU, Hubbard had the Pioneers as the 17th best scoring defense in the country, 9th best against the run, and 17th nationally in sacks.

Three seasons ago, Hubbard was listed in LRS Sports’ American Football Monthly magazine (www.lrssports.com) as a coach to watch at the NAIA level.

Hubbard is a native of Mediapolis, Iowa, where he attended Mediapolis High School, graduating in 1988. At Mediapolis, Hubbard was an All-State linebacker and finished 5th in the Iowa State Wrestling Tournament.

After graduating from Mediapolis, Hubbard went on to MidAmerica Nazarene University in Olathe, Kansas, where he earned his undergraduate degree in History in 1994. Hubbard was a four-year letterman for MidAmerica, where he played from 1990-94. On the gridiron, Hubbard was a Heart of America All-Conference selection in 1993. Craig then obtained his Master’s degree in History from Concordia University in Nebraska in 1996.

Hubbard began his coaching career in 1994, serving as an assistant coach at Concordia University, where he coached the defensive line and was the strength coach.

From Concordia, Hubbard returned to his alma mater, MidAmerica, in 1998, taking the position of linebacker’s coach which he held until 2005. In 2002, Hubbard added the title of defensive coordinator.

Craig has also served in the U.S. Army/Army National Guard from 1997-2005. In the U.S. Army, Hubbard was a SAPPER, and has been an infantryman, combat engineer, and air assault. Hubbard is also a member of the First Infantry Division (the Big Red One), and a member of the First Armored Division (Old Ironsides).

Craig and his wife, Amy, have two children, a daughter named Hannah, and a son named Caleb.

Eric Michael, Offensive Coordinator/Recruiting Coordinator

Eric Michael will begin his first season as the Offensive Coordinator for the Crimson Storm football team in the fall of 2009. Michael, who served on Mike Cochran’s staff for one season as running backs coach in 2007, will take over for Lee Brower who resigned in January and will also handle the recruiting duties as well as oversee the film coordination.

Michael comes to SNU from Westmoore High School, where he coached the quarterbacks last season.

Michael is a 1999 graduate of Ponca City High School, where he was an Honorable Mention All-State and First Team All-District quarterback. Michael holds Ponca City school records for career touchdown passes and single game touchdown passes.

Upon graduation from Ponca City, Michael enrolled at Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas, where he was a three-year varsity quarterback, earning All-Conference honors twice and being named Offensive Back of the Year in 2000. Michael still holds passing records at Southwestern.

Michael transferred from Southwestern to MidAmerica Nazarene where he was a member of MidAmerica’s NAIA quarterfinalist team.

Michael received his undergraduate degree from the University of Central Oklahoma in 2005 and earned a Master’s degree from Sam Houston State University in 2006.

Eric began his coaching career at Norman North High School in 2003, where he coached the tight ends and defensive backs. Michael then moved on to Brookshire-Royal High School in Brookshire, Texas, where he was passing coordinator and quarterbacks coach in 2005.

In 2006, Michael moved to the college ranks, where he took the linebackers coaching position at Sam Houston State for one season before coming to Southern Nazarene in 2007 as running backs coach.

Michael stayed at SNU for one season, before heading back to the high school level to coach quarterbacks at Westmoore High School.

Eric and his wife, Kendra, reside in Moore with their daughter, Lydia.

Steve Lykes, Running Backs Coach

Steve Lykes begins his sixth year as an assistant coach for the Crimson Storm football program in 2009, serving as the running backs coach.


Lykes has had a wealth of experience in coaching, serving in a variety of capacities throughout his career.

Lykes is a graduate of Bishop McGuinness High School in Oklahoma City. After graduating, Steve earned his college degree from the University of Central Oklahoma in 1972.

Lykes would begin his coaching career in 1972 as the wide receivers coach for Del City High School.

Lykes then moved on to Northwest Classen High School where he served as the running backs and defensive backs coach from 1973-74.

In 1975, Lykes began his head-coaching career by taking the head post at St. Mary’s High School where he compiled a 30-28 record from 1975-79. In 1976, Steve was named the Daily Oklahoman Little All-City Coach of the Year.

Lykes then moved on to coach Casady High School from 1980-1989 where he compiled a 46-40 record.

Lykes finished up his high school coaching career at Piedmont High School from 1990-2002 where he recorded a 59-64 record and was named the 2000 National Football Foundation Coach of the Year.

Steve came to SNU in 2004 and has served as the secondary coach for the past five seasons.

Steve and his wife Anne, have four children: Jeff, Tim, Lindsay, and Patrick and also have five grandchildren: Peyton, Ben, Cameron, Drew, and Sophie.

Micah Anderson, Cornerbacks Coach

Micah Anderson begins his fifth year as an assistant coach for the Southern Nazarene University football program in 2009 and will coach the cornerbacks this season.

Anderson was a former standout at Southern Nazarene University and has been a member of the SNU coaching staff since his graduation in 2005.

Anderson is a native of Piedmont, Oklahoma, where he attended Piedmont High School, graduating in 2001.

At Piedmont, Anderson was an All-District linebacker and also played basketball and track. Micah was a standout in the classroom, being named his class Valedictorian and was a member of the National Honor Society.

After graduating from Piedmont, Anderson went on to attend Southern Nazarene, where he earned his undergraduate degree in History/Political Science in 2005. Anderson was a four-year member of the Crimson Storm football team, where he played from 2001-05. Micah was a three-year starter at outside linebacker, recording 157 tackles in his four-year career.

Micah resides in Oklahoma City.

Clay Rhodes, Tight Ends Coach

Clay Rhodes begins his fourth season as an assistant coach for the Southern Nazarene University football program in 2009. Rhodes will coach the tight ends this season.

Rhodes is a native of Olathe, Kansas, where he attended Olathe North High School, graduating in 2002. At Olathe North, Rhodes was an All-State defensive lineman in Class 6A and helped lead Olathe North to two state championships. Clay was also an All-Sunflower League selection at offensive guard and defensive line.

After graduating from Olathe North, Rhodes went on to attend MidAmerica Nazarene University, where he earned his undergraduate degree in Sports Management. Rhodes played football for MNU, starting for four years on the defensive line. Rhodes helped lead the Pioneers to two Heart of America Conference Championships and three NAIA playoff appearances.

Upon graduation from MidAmerica, Rhodes played one game of professional football for the APFL’s Kansas Koyotes before joining SNU’s staff in 2006.

Clay and his wife Kara reside in Oklahoma City.

Billy Sexton, Defensive Line Coach

Billy Sexton begins his third season as an assistant coach for the Southern Nazarene University football program. Sexton will coach the defensive line this season.

Sexton is a native of Fort Worth, Texas, where he attended Boswell High School, graduating in 2002. At Boswell, Sexton was an All-State linebacker.

After graduating from Boswell, Sexton went on to attend MidAmerica Nazarene University. At MNU, Sexton was an Academic All-American in 2004 for the Pioneers. At MNU, Billy helped MidAmerica to three playoff appearances and two Heart of America Conference Championships.

Upon graduation from MidAmerica, Sexton was an assistant coach at Olathe Northwest High School where he worked with the offensive line and was strength & conditioning coach.

Billy resides in Mustang.

Trinity Johnson, Linebackers Coach

Trinity Johnson will begin his first year as assistant coach for the Southern Nazarene University football team in 2009, coaching the linebackers.

Johnson is a 1994 graduate of Elk City High School in Elk City, Oklahoma where he was a Class 4A All-State linebacker. Johnson also earned Class 4A Linebacker of the Year honors in 1993 and was a Class 4A All-State selection in soccer.

Upon graduation, Johnson enrolled at Southwestern Oklahoma State University where he earned his degree in Education. At Southwestern, Johnson was a member the Bulldogs 1997 Lone Star Conference Championships team. Johnson played from 1996-1998.

After graduating from Southwestern, Johnson began his coaching career at Yukon High School in 2000, coaching special teams, cornerbacks, and wide receivers from 2000-04.

Johnson left Yukon for Piedmont High School in 2004, where he served as the defensive coordinator, linebacker’s coach, and head assistant before being named the head coach in 2006. Johnson spent three years as head coach at Piedmont, recording a 3-17 record before coming to Southern Nazarene for the fall of 2009.

Johnson resides in Yukon with his wife, Emily, and their two sons, Tobias and Titus.

Jeff Seyfert, Academic Coordinator

Jeff Seyfert begins his tenth season as Southern Nazarene University’s academic coordinator. Seyfert also serves as the Director of Marketing in the Graduate Studies in Management department at Southern Nazarene.

Seyfert is a native of Seminole, Oklahoma, where he attended Seminole High School, graduating in 1983. At Seminole, Jeff was a one-year letterman for the football team and earned the Green Pride Award.

After graduating from Seminole, Seyfert went on to attend Southern Nazarene, where he earned his undergraduate degree in Marketing/Management in 1987. At SNU, Seyfert was a member of Delta Mu Delta, won the Harper Cole Award, and also was honored as SNU’s Outstanding Senior Business student. Jeff then obtained his Master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Tulsa in 1989.

Seyfert joined the SNU coaching staff at the outset of the program in 2000, under Head Coach Paul McGrady.

Jeff and his wife, Erica, have one child: a daughter named Ashley.

Aaron Ivey, Wide Receivers Coach

Aaron Ivey begins his first year as an assistant coach for the Southern Nazarene University football team in 2009, serving as the wide receivers coach.

Ivey is a 2003 graduate of Putnam City North High School in Oklahoma City, where he earned All-State honors in both football and baseball and was a high school All-American in 2001. Also in 2001, Ivey was named the Big All-City Offensive Player of the Year. Ivey graduated with a 4.0 GPA and was a Who’s Who Among High School Students selection while at PC North.

Upon graduation, Ivey enrolled at the University of Oklahoma where he graduated with a degree in Energy Management in 2008. While at OU, Ivey earned All-Big 12 Academic Team honors from 2004-07 and was an ESPN the Magazine Academic All-American of the Year winner for baseball in 2007. Ivey also earned Second Team All-Big 12 honors in 2007.

Ivey began his coaching career in the summer of 2008, serving as head junior varsity coach for the Oklahoma City Broncos baseball team. In the summer of 2009, Ivey was an assistant coach for the Putnam City North baseball team before coming to Southern Nazarene for the fall of 2009.

Ivey and his wife Kate reside in Yukon.

Cedric Jones, Centers/Guards Coach

Cedric Jones begins his first season as an assistant coach for the Southern Nazarene University football team in 2009, serving as the centers/guards coach.

Jones is a 1992 graduate of Lamar High School in Houston, Texas where he was an All-American selection. At Lamar, Jones earned the Houston Touchdown Club Defensive Player of the Year award and was a two-time District Defensive Player of the Year selection. Cedric also was a two-time First Team All-District honoree.

After graduating from Lamar, Jones enrolled at the University of Oklahoma where he played from 1992-95, earning his degree in Liberal Arts Studies. At OU, Jones was a 1995 All-American and a two-time First Team All-Conference selection. Jones finished his career as OU’s all-time career sacks leads and held records for single season sacks and single game sacks.

After graduating from Oklahoma, Jones played football professionally in the National Football League for the New York Giants from 1996-2000 and the St. Louis Rams from 2000-01.

Jones began his coaching career in 2005, serving as defensive and offensive line coach for Montclair Prep High School in Los Angeles.

In 2008, Jones headed back to the NFL, serving for one year with Carolina Panthers as a defensive line coach.

Jones and his wife Susi reside in Norman with their three children: Cailey, Cameron, and Cash.

Nick Brown, Outside Linebackers Coach

Nick Brown begins his second year as an assistant coach for the Southern Nazarene University football team in 2009, serving as the outside linebackers coach.

Brown is a 2003 graduate of Aubrey High School in Aubrey, Texas, where he was a three-time All-District selection as an offensive lineman and two-time All-Denton Area selection. Brown also earned 2001 Offensive Line MVP honors and was a Texas Scholar Award recipient.

After graduating from Aubrey, Brown enrolled at MidAmerica Nazarene University where he attended for two and a half years before transferring to Southern Nazarene to finish his degree in History.
