  • SNU Equestrian team wins Western Show #2 at Western Intercollegiate Horse show

(LUBBOCK, TEXAS)---The Southern Nazarene University Western Equestrian team finished first place in the afternoon show on Saturday at Texas Tech University in Lubbock.  SNU finished ahead of second place, West Texas A&M, and third place, Texas Tech, in the Western #2 show on Saturday.

"I am very proud of our students for the effort they put forth this weekend," said SNU equestrian coach, Bill Bowen.  "The schools we competed against had twice as many riders as we did, such as West Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, and Texas State, to name a few.  SNU is very lucky to have the students we have who go all out.  The are a great group of students."

While only sporting five riders in the show, which is one third of the size of the West Texas A&M and Texas Tech teams, SNU still managed a strong showing on Saturday.  The Crimson Storm scored 29 points to pick up the win over the Buffaloes and Red Raiders.  SNU also finished ahead of the University of Oklahoma in the afternoon show.

Individually, SNU’s Janislynn Isackson, a senior from Lewiston, Montana, won first place in Reining and was second in the open horsemanship class.  Isackson finished as the reserve high point rider for the show.  Isackson will move on to represent Southern Nazarene University at the Zone Semifinal Championships in Canyon, Texas.

Other SNU individual results saw Johannah Isackson, a junior from Lewiston, Montana, finish fourth in the advanced horsemanship division.  Aubrey Faulkner, a freshman from Bethany, earned first place in the novice horsemanship division, Morgan Totty, a sophomore from Duncan, Oklahoma, placed second in the beginner horsemanship class, and Stephanie Bailey, a junior from New Mexico, placed first in the beginner horsemanship division.
